J-dorama ~ D

Title: Dekichatta Kekkon

Cast: Takenouchi Yutaka, Hirosue Ryouko, Ishida Yuriko, Abe Hiroshi Tsumabuki Satoshi, Katase Nana, Sawamura Ikki

Scriptwriter: Yoshida Noriko

Theme: "Is it you?" by Hitomi

            "Your eyes only" by Exile

On Air: FujiTV 2001 Jul 2 - Sep 10

A one night stand led Otani Chiyo (Hirosue) to announce that she's pregnant with Hirao Ryunosuke's (Takenouchi) baby. Not ready to be a father and especially when Ryunosuke did not know Chiyo well enough to regard her as a girlfriend (He can't even get her name right!), he nevertheless agreed to marry her. This drama depicts how two people come together and work through their differences to prepare their marriage and welcome a new member in their lives.

This drama is hilarious! It has been such a long time since I watched Takenouchi acting as such a character. He's always the quiet and cool one in his previous dramas and this time round, he succeeded as someone who has control over his work as the CM director but is at a loss when it comes to dealing with Chiyo. And not to forget, his knees go weak and sweats appearing on his nose bridge every time he goes to see Chiyo's father. All the casts are great. Hirosue's character practically displayed all the symptoms experienced by pregnant mothers, Kawaguchi Hidetarou (Abe) is so funny as the good-for-nothing guy who always say he want to study for the bar exam but never make an effort to study for it, Shinjyou Takumi (Tsumabuki) is so cute when he always talked about his grandfather when he goes dating with Arimori Misato (Katase), and Sawamura is just hilarious as the gynaecologist of Hirosue. Oh, and the drama is pushed up a few notches by the songs from Hitomi and Exile!

Title: Dr. Kotou Shinryousho

Cast: Yoshioka Hidetaka, Shibasaki Kou, Kakei Toshio, Tokitou Saburou, Ootsuka Nene, Ishida Yuriko

Scriptwriter: Yoshida Noriko

Theme: "Gin no ryuu no sei ni notte" by Nakashima Miyuki

"Omoide dakedewa tsurasugiru" by Shibasaki Kou

On Air: FujiTV 2003 Jul 3 - Sep 11

A story about Gotou Kensuke (Yoshioka) who moved to the fictitious Shikina Island to take on the post of the only doctor in the island.  With just one nurse, Hoshino Ayaka (Shibasaki) and a clerk in the clinic, Wada Kazunori (Kakei), to help him out, Dr Gotou performed many operations in the small clinic and with each success and his sincere care and concern for the people, he slowly wins over the trust of the island people who never believed in island doctors before.

Although I was expecting my tap of tears to turn on while watching the drama, there wasn't that many scenes that really touched me. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the drama considering that I actually finished watching all 11 episodes in 3 days which hardly happened nowadays. I wouldn't say that there's a special casting here but each of the casts did a good job. Yoshioka certainly is not the type of actor who will interest me to watch his drama (If not for the fact that there's good review on this drama, I probably wouldn't watch it in the first place) but surprisingly I thought he quite suit this role. Oh, and Kimura Yoshino appeared in two episodes of the drama.

In case you are wondering why the title is "Dr Kotoh" when the doctor's name is Gotou, that's because the kids on the island made a flag for him to put on the rooftop of the clinic and they did not write the two dots on the katagana word 'Ko' =P

The special was aired on 2004 Jan. DON'T bother watching it. I thought there will be new development in the story when the special opens showing the doctor, who was once attached to Dr Gotou during his attachment in the university hospital, moving to an island near Hokkaido to work as the island doctor after hearing Gotou telling him that he learns more about a doctor's job on the island. However, the whole special is more of Gotou recalling back what he has done in the island which basically means a summarisation of the whole 11 episodes! It's really a waste of time unless you have never watch the drama before in which case, I would rather you watch the drama instead.

Title: Double Score

Cast: Sorimachi Takashi, Oshio Manabu

Scriptwriter: Terada Toshio

Theme: "It Takes Two" by Chemistry

On Air: FujiTV 2002 Oct 8 - Dec 18

Tachibana Shinnosuke (Sorimachi) is a rough cop who does not care about promotion but has a high arrest rate in his history. However, this high records are obtained through his unorthodox method in capturing criminals, which probably explains why he always has to write a report after each arrest. Kawamura Etsuro (Oshio) is the cool cop who does everything by the book. When he is to pair up with Tachibana, you can expect the clashes between them. But they survived their difference in personalities and work together to solve many cases.

Same as my sentiment when I watched Sorimachi's wife, Matsushima Nanako, in Bijyo ka Yajyuu, I want to scream "Sorimachi is finally back!" ^o^ Finally free from the long NHK taigai drama, he's back as the hot blooded cop who does not hold the rules in regard when it comes to capturing criminals. He and Oshio make an interesting combination and it's really funny watching them. Can't say much about Oshio since I can't make out from his expression if he's supposed to be an elite or a nerdy cop. But he does look pretty cool =P
